“Operational Excellence will make the Post Office ‘lean’ and is one of the Post Office’s most important programmes for reinforcing its competitiveness in the years to come. Now the programme is looking for navigators for the OpEx programme in Distribution networks and Procurement:
Being a navigator involves supporting the local management on the implementation of ‘lean’ operations in mini transformations at terminals and distribution units,” says Bjørn Hellqvist, manager of the programme. He states that at present, the programme has six navigators who work at the Post Office’s Goods Centre, which is the pilot for OpEx in D networks.
Implementation plan
The implementation plan requires 10-15 navigators for OpEx in D networks and 4-5 in procurement. The navigators linked with OpEx in D networks will be working on the terminals and distribution units which are reviewed regularly, while navigators in procurement will work mainly from Posthuset in Oslo. “You have to be hugely enthusiastic about change” – Hellqvist encourages the people who are really committed and keen on change to apply for the position: Working as a navigator provides fantastic opportunities for professional and managerial development and is at the same time demanding, as your primary task will be to make local management capable of succeeding with the introduction of LEAN. “We are open to people with different backgrounds, but naturally we make stringent demands of navigators, particularly as regards personal drive and vitality, as well as an analytical ability and ability to solve problems,” says Hellqvist, who is pleased to see the response to the job advertisement.
